The fourth round of the Baltic Top League was probably one of the most interesting this season. Unfortunately, in a tense match, the VRA-Tomosta rugby players failed to beat the Šiauliai team and the Vilnius fans will have to wait for their first victory.
The Vilnius players arrived with only the intention of winning and from the very first minutes they put pressure on their opponents. Domantas Alenskas scored the first pressure for VRA-Tomosta in the 16th minute, Mantas Butkevičius's goal was not accurate, so the score remained 0-5 in favor of Vilnius players until the end of the half. The VRA-Tomosta rugby players, who received a "relegation to the locker room", allowed their opponents to equalize the score and end the half with a score of 5-5.

In the second half, the goal was also a long wait. In the 64th minute, after a great interception and pass by Alvidas Pritulskis, Mantas Butkevičius scored the goal, escaping and leaving his opponents behind him. Mantas' conversion shot was accurate and the result became 5-12 in favor of "VRA-Tomosta". The referee's rough mistakes and questionable decisions began to cause a storm between both teams, so the match was full of scuffles and dirty play, but that only made it more interesting for the fans, because the intrigue in the match remained until the very last second. In the 73rd minute, Šiauliai received a penalty and Vilnius Rugby Academy player Mantas Butkevičius chose to shoot at goal, executed the conversion accurately and increased the Vilnius team's gap to 5-15. 79th minute. The opponents pressed the ball in the Vilnius team's scoring area and raised their fans from the benches, the score became 12-15. Šiauliai "Šiauliai" showed character and, believing in their own strength, pressed the "VRA-Tomosta" rugby players in their field area. After the end of the match time, Šiauliai managed to bring the ball down and thus snatched the victory. The match ended with the score 19-15 in favor of Šiauliai "Šiauliai".
Domantas Stravinskas was recognized as the best player of the match for VRA-Tomosta.
Arijus Traigys was recognized as the best defender for Gralla Premium.
“We lost this match disappointingly, the match time was over and the last pressure from the opponents was unclear, and the referees’ actions were incomprehensible to us. In the first half, we maintained discipline, although there were still quite a few technical flaws, but the end of the second half was tragic, there was no discipline left in defense. After these lost matches, we have to recover and prepare for the next matches. I want to thank the club volunteers who supported us until the end of the match and believed in our victory, unfortunately, but we failed to win it.” – commented on the match, the team’s head coach Vidmantas Valys.
The next Baltic Top League match will take place on September 3rd (Saturday), at 14:00 at Vilnius Vingis Parks Rugby Stadium against Latvian rivals Miesnieki. We invite you to support the VRA-Tomosta rugby players in their pursuit of their first victory this season.
