Start of the Regions Cup: the first VRA match against Kaunas RK “Ąžuolas”

Last Sunday, on 25 May, the 2025 season of the Regions Cup Rugby-15, organised by the Lithuanian Rugby Federation, kicked off at the Vilnius Vingis Park Rugby Stadium. In the first match, the Vilnius Rugby Academy (VRA) team met the guests from Kaunas - RK “Ąžuolas”.

Sunny, warm and almost summer weather created perfect conditions for a rugby festival. There was no shortage of good mood in the stands and energy and determination for the players on the field.

The first quarter ended with a score of 7:33 in favour of RK “Ąžuolas”. In the second quarter, the Vilnius players showed more stubbornness and better play, scoring 14 more points. The final score was VRA 21, Ąžuolas 45. It was a great warm-up and valuable experience for the upcoming matches.

There was no shortage of intense moments and strong contacts on the field, and the teams' medics were often seen on the field to help the injured players.

We thank Kaunas RK “Ąžuolas” team for a fighting duel. Sincere thanks also to the whole VRA community and all those who contributed to the organisation of the event. And, of course, the biggest thanks to our wonderful fans - your support on the field turns into a real strength of the 16th player.
