Rugby Up Close at the Vilnius Sports Festival
At the Vilnius Sports Festival, we had the opportunity to showcase rugby to the people of Vilnius – sharing our experience, inviting everyone to try activities, and celebrating togetherness.

On September 5–7, the Vilnius Sports Festival took place in the capital, organized by “Active Vilnius.” We are delighted that we, the Vilnius Rugby Academy, took part in this sporting celebration – for three days we had the opportunity to present rugby to festival visitors, introduce them to the sport more closely, and share our sense of community.
In our academy’s zone, visitors could try out various activities that revealed the essence of rugby. Those interested were able to test their strength in the scrummaging challenge, experience safe contact, attempt to knock down special tackle pads as if they were opponents, or check their accuracy by aiming a rugby ball at a target. These engaging activities attracted a lot of attention – passersby rarely walked past without stopping, and the most active participants even had the chance to win a rugby ball.
On Saturday, on the main stage of the Sports Festival, the Vilnius Rugby Academy had the opportunity to present rugby to a wider audience. Our academy’s leader, Augustinas Terleckas, spoke about children’s TAG rugby and adult rugby, while members of our community demonstrated how the game looks in practice. The youngest players performed TAG rugby on stage, while representatives of the men’s team showcased several elements of the adult game. It was not only an entertaining but also an inspiring experience.
We are grateful to all members of the Vilnius Rugby Academy community who contributed to the festival – by educating visitors and showing through their example that rugby is a sport where strength, friendship, and unity come together. While some of our players were competing in Poland at a rugby-7 championship, others supported the academy’s activities at the festival. This is a great example of how our community grows and strengthens together.
We sincerely thank the “Active Vilnius” team for organizing such a lively and well-structured celebration and for giving us the opportunity to present rugby to an even broader audience. We believe that such events help discover new sports enthusiasts and contribute to strengthening the entire sports community in Vilnius.
