The Baltic Rugby Championship (BRC) match took place on August 31st at Vilnius’ Vingis Park Stadium, where Vilnius Rugby Academy (VRA) faced Plungė’s rugby club “Perkūnas.” The capital’s team gifted their fans a true rugby celebration – the match ended with a commanding 84:12 victory.
The first half was competitive, but by halftime VRA already held a solid lead of 26:7. In the second half, the Vilnius side completely took control, showing dominance both in attack and defense, and confidently secured the win.
The MVP of the match was Domantas Alenskas, who stood out with powerful runs, excellent ball control, and stability on the field. Tries were scored by several VRA players – Mantas Stelionis, Julius Valacka, Tomas Grigaitis, Domantas Stravinskas, Karolis Mikelaitis, Martynas Rimšelis, Julius Melnikas, and Dominykas Petrovas. Successful conversions were added by Domantas Stravinskas, Julius Melnikas, and Karolis Mikelaitis.
Although the weather was summer-like and hot, the clouds softened the heat, and the stands were full of emotions – with a large number of fans supporting both teams.
The Vilnius Rugby Academy season is far from over – on September 6th, the VRA men will travel to Poland to compete in the R7 Grand Final – GP Baltic Rugby 7’s. Meanwhile, the next BRC matches are planned for a couple of weeks later.
We would like to thank Gabriele Pauraite and Laura Ivanauskaite for capturing the competition.
