On October 12, the Baltic Rugby Championship final took place in Klaipėda, where Vilnius Rugby Academy and Klaipėda „Kuršiai“ clashed on the field.

The first half started unfavorably for Vilnius – after a few unsuccessful plays, the score became 26:05 in favor of „Kuršiai“. However, in the second half, VRA managed to recover, show character, and reduce the gap – the match ended 38:29.

Tries were scored by Julius Melnikas, Alvidas Pritulskis, and Karolis Lukoševičius, and conversions were successfully made by Domantas Stravinskas.

Unfortunately, at the beginning of the first half, the referee missed an incident when Domantas Alenskas, reaching out with his hand near the center of the goal, touched down in the try zone. This play could have been our first 7 points, boosting the team’s confidence and potentially changing the course of the game – perhaps the final score could have been 38:36, or even a victory for us.

Later, following a rough mistake by „Kuršiai“, Vilnius was awarded a technical try, and the opponents received a yellow card. In the second half, one of our players also received a yellow card, yet the team continued to fight until the final whistle.

Julius Melnikas was named Player of the Match, showing endurance and excellent game awareness.

After the game, the teams were awarded medals, congratulated each other, and shared impressions during the traditional “third half.”

This year, Vilnius Rugby Academy improved on last year’s result, when we finished third in the 2024 BRC tournament. Next year, our goal is to reach the top and claim the championship title!
